The Listerdale Mystery, Agatha Christie

The Listerdale Mystery and other stories is that kind of short stories book I like so much of Agatha Christie. The stories doesn't feature any of the famous Christie's characters (Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot)... They are just a bundle of intrigue short stories.
What mystery lies behind a wonderful house (with the service included) with a strangely low rent? (The Listerdale Mystery story)
Why there is such secrecy around the newly married husband of a young girl? (Philomel Cottage, which inspired the 1947 film 'Love from a Stranger'),
What kind of adventures can afloat from a brief meeting of a really beautiful girls? (The girl in the train)
Will the old lawyer be able to help the young girl needs? (Sing a song of Sixpence)
How a mistake in a cross-road can change a dull man? (The manhood of Edward Robinson)
It was really an Accident? (an ironic story about a murderer who is not caught)
Jane in search of a job, a story about the troubles of a girl looking for a job, which are not as dull as it may seem at first sight.
Mr Eastwood's Adventure, which explains the adventure of a crime writer with a temporary lack of inspiration, who is involved incidentally in an affair involving real crime.
Does the Swan Song, the last sing by a famous opera tenor in a private party, hide some dark story and maybe a vengeance crime?

Anyway, the funniest story of this short story compilation is "The Rajah's Emerald" (another link), which hero is incidentally (and with no apparent relationship) like the famous character of the Ian Flemming's stories: James Bond. My theory about this is that both writers were looking for a plain name, one that is ordinary and that would not call special attention.

I enjoyed this book quite much. Anyway if you look for an Agatha Christie classic book, you must try (if you haven't yet) with

Murder in the Orient Express (1934)

One of the most famous books of Agatha Christie, adapted for the cinema in 1974, featuring Albert Finney as Hercule Poirot. In this case Poirot sees himself involved in a really complicated case. The scenario, the Orient Express, obviouslly. A murder. The victim, stabbed many many times. Not one. Not two. More. Many more. And the always surprising Hercule Poirot is in charge of the investigation, which will have the most unexpected paths.
